Programme

The 5th World Summit on Arts and Culture explored the theme Creative Intersections. Speakers addressed the role of government policy in creating intersections between the arts and other sectors, and the benefits of these to the community; and delegates considered issues that ranged from the environment to health, social inclusion to technological innovation, education to participatory democracy. The programme for the 5th World Summit was developed by Programme Advisor Robyn Archer (Australia), a singer, performer, writer, artistic director and public advocate for the arts.

Programme Participants

The 5th World Summit included keynote sessions with:

Jacques Martial (France), actor and President of Parc de la Villette, who explored the links between culture and place and his plans to improve access to cultural facilities and implement inclusion policies for the Parc de la Villette in Paris; with Eduard Miralles (Spain) Cultural Relations Advisor, Barcelona Provincial Council, who responded with consideration on how local governments can ensure that their cultural policies allow for radical cultural inclusion of long-resident minorities and recent arrivals, and how policies can balance the sometimes conflicting emotions of artists and residents.

Dr Tim Greacen (France), a psychologist and singer, who made the claim that without health there is no creativity and vice versa and explored the intersection between health and the arts; with Jo Dorras and Danny Marcel (Vanuatu), members of the Wan Smolbag theatre company.

Alison Tickell (UK), Founder and Director of Julie’s Bicycle, who addressed issues of environmental sustainability and how those working in the arts can effect change, drawing on her experience helping the creative industries reduce their environmental impacts and develop new thinking in tune with global environmental challenges.
